Ensight Eyecare was founded by Dr. James Barton, O.D. and is locally owned and operated. Dr. Barton and the team love the community and enjoy building long-term relationships with patients by providing expert, quality eye care in a warm, friendly environment.
James Barton, O.D.
Optometrist
About Dr. James Barton
Dr. James Barton is a Covington County native who graduated from Straughn High School, Troy University, and the University of Alabama School of Optometry. Returning home in 2010, Dr. Barton began practicing full-scope primary care optometry managing everything from nearsightedness to macular degeneration. He is currently a member of the Alabama and American Optometric Associations.
When not at work, Dr. Barton is an active member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. He and his wife, Monica, have three children, Josiah, Tiber, and Barrett. They also have three rescue cats, Jynx, Marsh, and Orange Cat (named by Josiah). He enjoys hunting, tinkering with new technology, and spending time with his family.

Chief Operations Officer
Meet Monica Barton
Monica Barton serves as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Ensight EyeCare, bringing more than 20 years of experience in the medical field. Throughout her career, she has built a reputation for compassionate patient care, exceptional organization, and creating welcoming environments where both patients and team members feel valued. She believes that kindness, empathy, and attention to detail make a meaningful difference in every interaction.
As COO, Monica is passionate about building efficient systems, supporting the team behind the scenes, and ensuring that every patient receives an exceptional experience from the moment they walk through the door. She enjoys creating calm from chaos, solving problems, and helping both patients and staff feel supported, knowing that great patient care begins with a strong, connected team.
Beyond her leadership role at Ensight Eyecare, Monica is a wife and mother of five who enjoys spending time with her family, reading, exploring the outdoors, and tackling home projects. She has a love for interior design, vintage finds, and all things cozy, with a style that blends timeless elegance with a touch of the unconventional.
Jennifer
Practice Manager
Meet Jennifer
Jennifer joined Ensight EyeCare in January 2026 and serves as Practice Manager. She is passionate about creating an environment where patients feel welcomed, valued, and confident in the care they receive. Whether she’s supporting the team behind the scenes or helping patients navigate a concern, Jennifer believes every interaction is an opportunity to build trust.
As Practice Manager, Jennifer is dedicated to strengthening every aspect of the patient experience—from developing efficient systems and supporting staff growth to ensuring the practice operates with the highest standards of quality, safety, and compassion. She believes exceptional healthcare is built on clear communication, accountability, and a team that genuinely enjoys caring for others. Jennifer is quick to recognize that Ensight’s success is a reflection of the incredible people she works alongside every day, often saying that without Ensight’s amazing team, she’d be lost. She considers it a privilege to support and learn from them while working together toward one shared goal: providing exceptional care for every patient.
Away from the practice, Jennifer enjoys spending time on Fairwinds Farm, gardening, and exploring herbalism and homesteading. A trained herbalist with a lifelong passion for learning and hands-on problem solving, she has also lived in four different countries, experiences that have given her a broad appreciation for people and cultures. One of her favorite stories to share is that, at just 19 years old, she rebuilt the engine in her 1969 Chevy truck entirely on her own—a reflection of the determination and curiosity she still brings to everything she does.
Cassidy

Meet Cassidy
Cassidy has been an important part of the Ensight EyeCare team for many years and serves as our Lead Clinical Technician and Contact Lens Specialist. She is passionate about helping patients receive the care they need while making every visit both comfortable and enjoyable.
As our Contact Lens Specialist, Cassidy enjoys educating patients on proper contact lens wear and safety while helping them find solutions that fit their lifestyle. She takes pride in the precision and follow-up that go into successful contact lens care and believes patient education is one of the most important parts of achieving long-term eye health.
Beyond patient care, Cassidy enjoys mentoring team members and sharing her knowledge with others as they grow in their careers. She believes exceptional patient care is about creating an experience that keeps patients coming back year after year because they know they’ll receive compassionate, knowledgeable care from a team they trust.
When she’s off the clock, Cassidy enjoys reading, exploring the outdoors, discovering new adventures, and spending time gaming with friends. She also knows the local back roads better than just about anyone and jokes that she can travel from one end of the county to the other without ever leaving a dirt road.

Meet Ashley
Ashley joined Ensight EyeCare in 2024 and serves as our Patient Care Team Lead and Patient Care Coordinator. In this leadership role, she helps ensure each patient’s experience is smooth, efficient, and personalized by supporting patient care workflows, coordinating communication, and assisting the team in delivering the highest level of service throughout every visit.
Ashley enjoys building lasting relationships with patients, answering questions, and helping each person feel informed and at ease. She believes every patient deserves to feel welcomed, respected, and heard—never like just another appointment on the schedule. Whether she’s greeting patients, coordinating care behind the scenes, or guiding someone through the next steps of their visit, Ashley’s goal is to ensure every interaction reflects the compassion and personalized attention that defines Ensight EyeCare.
Behind the scenes, Ashley helps keep the day running smoothly for both patients and the clinical team. She takes pride in being someone her coworkers can rely on and finds great satisfaction in knowing her work contributes to an exceptional patient experience from start to finish.
When she’s not caring for patients, Ashley enjoys reading, spending time at the beach, and making memories with her family. As a mother of five, she jokes that she’s become an expert at multitasking and coordinating a little chaos—skills that certainly come in handy both at home and at Ensight Eyecare!

Megan joined Ensight EyeCare in 2024 and enjoys building meaningful connections with patients before they see the doctor. She believes that sometimes a kind conversation and a listening ear can make just as much of a difference as the clinical care itself. By taking the time to explain each test and what it’s looking for, Megan helps patients feel comfortable, informed, and confident throughout their visit.
As a Clinical Technician, Megan enjoys working with advanced diagnostic technology while collaborating closely with the clinical team to provide compassionate, efficient care. She holds herself to the same standard she would want for her own family—treating every patient with professionalism, respect, and genuine compassion. For Megan, a successful visit is one where patients leave smiling, understanding their eye health, and feeling confident about their care.
Away from patient care, Megan enjoys spending time with her children, cooking, and thrift shopping. She appreciates life’s simple moments and brings that same warmth and authenticity to every patient she meets.
Elgin

Elgin joined Ensight EyeCare in 2022 and enjoys helping patients feel comfortable, informed, and cared for throughout every step of their visit. As a Clinical Technician, she believes that taking the time to explain each test and answer questions helps patients feel more confident and at ease during the exam process.
Elgin enjoys working closely with the doctor and the rest of the clinical team to ensure every patient receives the care and attention they deserve. She believes dependable patient care means being someone others can rely on while treating every patient with kindness, respect, and compassion. Helping people feel seen, heard, and reassured is one of the most rewarding parts of her job.
When the workday is done, Elgin enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, relaxing by the pool, and going for side-by-side rides. Having undergone cataract surgery herself at the age of five, she understands firsthand how important compassionate, reassuring eye care can be—an experience that continues to shape the way she cares for her patients today.

Clinical Technician
Meet Jenna
Jenna joined Ensight EyeCare in 2021 and enjoys helping patients feel heard, informed, and confident throughout their visit. She believes that taking the time to listen to each patient’s concerns, perform the appropriate testing, and clearly explain every step of the process helps create a more comfortable and reassuring experience.
As a Clinical Technician, Jenna takes pride in making sure both patients and her teammates have the information they need to succeed. She understands that an eye exam is about much more than updating a glasses prescription—it’s an opportunity to detect and monitor a wide range of eye health conditions. Jenna is passionate about providing compassionate care while helping patients better understand their eye health every step of the way.
Outside the office, Jenna enjoys spending time outdoors, making memories with her husband and two children, and tackling home decorating projects. She is currently balancing family life, her career, and completing her bachelor’s degree, a challenge she embraces with organization, dedication, and a love of continuous learning.

Meet Enrico
Enrico joined Ensight EyeCare in 2025 and enjoys helping patients find eyewear that not only improves their vision but also complements their lifestyle and personal style. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Tourism Development, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), and is TEFL certified. His diverse educational background, combined with his passion for helping others, allows him to approach patient care with both technical knowledge and a strong focus on communication.
As our Optician, Enrico carefully considers every detail—from a patient’s prescription and lifestyle to frame fit, lens materials, and specialty options—to create eyewear that is comfortable, functional, and tailored to each individual. He enjoys blending the technical and creative sides of optical care, transforming a prescription into a solution that patients can confidently wear every day.
Beyond his role at Ensight Eyecare, Enrico enjoys reading, board games, watching sports, and spending time with family and friends. Originally from South Africa, he spent more than five years teaching English in China, where he met his wife before eventually making Andalusia home. His diverse experiences have given him a genuine appreciation for connecting with people from all walks of life.

Erica Bullard joined Ensight EyeCare in 2025 as an Optician and enjoys helping patients find eyewear that improves both their vision and their confidence. One of her favorite moments is seeing a patient’s reaction when they put on their new glasses and realize how much better they can see. She believes the best eyewear combines clear vision, comfort, and a style that fits each person’s lifestyle.
Erica enjoys the technical side of optical and appreciates the precision and craftsmanship involved in creating a finished pair of glasses. She takes the time to listen to each patient’s needs, carefully considering their prescription, frame fit, lens options, and personal preferences to recommend the best solution.
She enjoys educating patients about the work that goes into making quality eyewear and helping them understand that properly measured and fitted glasses provide a level of accuracy that simply ordering online cannot match. Her goal is for every patient to leave feeling excited about their new glasses and confident in both their vision and their experience at Ensight EyeCare.
When she’s not helping patients find the perfect pair of glasses, Erica enjoys spending time with her children, attending their activities, and sharing plenty of laughter along the way. She also enjoys keeping the office smiling with lighthearted pranks and a good sense of humor. A fun fact about Erica is that she is naturally competitive and enjoys challenging herself to learn new skills and continue growing both personally and professionally.
Brooklyn

Meet Brooklyn
Brooklyn joined Ensight EyeCare in June 2026 and is one of the first smiling faces patients see when they walk through our doors. As a member of our front services team, she enjoys getting to know each patient and helping create a positive experience from the moment they arrive.
For Brooklyn, making patients feel welcome starts with treating everyone with kindness, respect, and genuine warmth. She believes the most meaningful interactions happen when patients feel heard, valued, and cared for. Working alongside the Ensight team, she is proud to help provide a seamless experience that reflects the compassionate care our practice strives to deliver every day.
Brooklyn is excited to continue expanding her knowledge of the medical side of eye care while growing her skills within the practice. She hopes every patient notices the welcoming atmosphere at Ensight EyeCare and leaves knowing they were cared for by a team that truly has their best interests at heart.
Away from Ensight Eyecare, Brooklyn enjoys fishing, flower gardening, and relaxing with a good movie. If you ask her about her hobbies, don’t be surprised if gardening comes up—she proudly says her garden is “about the size of this building,” and it’s one of her favorite ways to spend her free time.

Gracie joined Ensight EyeCare in 2025 and is proud to be one of the first friendly faces patients see when they arrive. She believes a warm smile, a positive attitude, and a welcoming environment can make all the difference in helping someone feel comfortable from the moment they walk through our doors.
Gracie enjoys getting to know patients, listening carefully to their concerns, and helping each visit feel as smooth and stress-free as possible. She loves seeing patients leave with a smile, feeling more comfortable and confident than when they arrived. Behind the scenes, she values the teamwork and preparation that go into creating an exceptional patient experience and is grateful to be part of a supportive team that truly cares about one another and the people they serve.
If you catch Gracie outside of Ensight Eyecare, there’s a good chance you’ll find her antiquing, exploring thrift stores, and searching for vintage treasures. She also loves what she affectionately calls “grandma hobbies” – crafting, cozy projects, and other simple activities that help her slow down and enjoy life’s little moments. If there’s a hidden treasure waiting to be found, chances are Gracie will be the one to discover it.

As Contact Lens Specialist, Rae is commited to helping patients achieve the best results with their contact lenses while making the process easy to understand. She enjoys explaining the benefits of different options, ensuring patients feel informed and prepared, and loves knowing she’s helped make someone’s day just a little bit better. Whether assisting with contact lenses or helping a patient discover the perfect pair of frames, Rae enjoys finding solutions that improve both comfort and confidence.
Away from Ensight Eyecare, Rae enjoys playing video games, reading science fiction and fantasy novels, and taking long walks outdoors. She’s also a history enthusiast who loves visiting museums—especially art museums—and is always excited to learn something new.

Krista joined Ensight EyeCare in 2015 and serves as our Billing & Coding Specialist. She enjoys helping patients navigate insurance and billing questions by breaking down complex information into clear, understandable terms. Her goal is to ensure every patient leaves feeling informed, supported, and confident about their financial responsibilities.
Behind the scenes, Krista plays an essential role in making the billing process as accurate and seamless as possible. She takes pride in reviewing insurance information, verifying patient benefits, and helping prevent unnecessary claim delays or billing surprises. Krista believes that clear communication, attention to detail, and a willingness to solve problems allow patients to focus on what matters most—their vision and overall eye health.
Away from the world of billing and insurance, Krista enjoys lifting weights, playing the drums, and spending time with her family. She also enjoys taking on new challenges, whether she’s working toward a fitness goal, learning a new song on the drums, or solving a difficult billing issue. She’s also a devoted Georgia Bulldogs fan (sorry, Bama fans!), and brings that same enthusiasm and determination to everything she does.
